“Sunan Ampel, Sunan Giri, Sunan Bonang,
Sunan Kalijaga and Sunan Drajat practiced
dhikr khafi Allah as practiced by Al-Ghazali
and taught the spiritual ways of Imam Abu
al-Qasim al-Qushayri and Imam Al-Ghazali
to their assemblage in north coast of Java.”

“The spiritual chain of Imam Al-Ghazali is
connected to Prophet Muhammad (sws)
through Ali Ibn Abi Talib, Hasan al-Basri,
Habib ibn Muhammad al-‘Ajami al-Farsi,
Abu Sulayman Dawud Ibn Nusayr al-Ta’i,
Ma’ruf al-Karkhi, Abu Hasan al-Siri Saqti,
Junayd Baghdadi, Abu Bakr Shibli Maliki,
Abu’l Qasim al-Nasrabadi, Abu Ali Hasan
al-Daqqaq, Abu’l Qasim Abdul Karim bin
Hawazin al-Qushayri through al-Fadl al-
Farmadi who was one of the mashaykh
who taught Imam Ghazali in spirituality.”

“While Sunan Kudus, Sunan Gunung Jati,
and Sunan Muria, besides following the
dhikr way of Imam al-Ghazali, practiced
also dhikr like that of the Shadhili order,
yet they were not shadili but walisongo.”

the Qadiri, Naqshbandi, Shadhili order
